Waterfalls

To extend our anniversary fun, Ryan took a vacation day and we went hiking in DuPont State Forest. Getting dressed that morning I told Tessa we were going hiking to see waterfalls. She thought about this and then said "I need a bow." I have raised her right! This is the same girl who politely refused to fingerpaint in Sunday School on Mother's Day. She told her teachers she didn't want to get her dress dirty. Music to my ears. Back to the waterfalls... We chose DuPont because the trails are fairly easy and you can see several waterfalls in one day. Pictured above are Triple Falls and High Falls. The mountain laurel was blooming and we had the trails mostly to ourselves. Since we hiked waterfalls on our honeymoon it was extra fun to do it on our anniversary too. Of course, unlike Hawaii it was not warm enough to swim in this mountain lake.

Only You...

Twelve years ago I married the love of my life. We spent Saturday walking down memory lane. First Tessa helped me make my Bellini wedding cake. Peaches, champagne, peach liquour and buttercream frosting. I have to say, of all the weddings we have been to, none have ever had a more delicious cake. Making it each year might become a tradition. Then, just for fun, I tried on my wedding dress. And it still fits! Tessa thought it was the most exciting thing and raced to get her wedding dress too. So we took bridal portraits. We dropped Tessa off at my mom's house and cooked ourselves a nice steak dinner. Afterwards, we let Tessa stay up late and we watched our wedding video. She thought it was the best movie ever. Of course I cried. We all danced along while we watched the reception. There is something very special about dancing in the living room to your wedding songs. A very happy anniversary.

Princess Party

One of our little friends had a princess party for her fourth birthday. It was all about fancy dresses, flashy jewelry and make-up. They had the sweetest tea party, played games and made crafty crowns. But the best part of the party was that Cinderella was invited too! She read a story, sang a song and had a twirling contest with the girls.
While Tessa pretended to be shy for the first half of the party, she was totally attached to Cinderella for the second half. When it was time for Cinderella to leave Tessa said "She needs to go back to Disney World. Prince Charming is waiting for her at the castle." I love it!!! Great party, the only problem is that now Tessa wants Belle at her fourth birthday party. Maybe when she turns five, I'm already planning a Minnie Mouse party for this summer.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to us! After church, we went downtown for a lovely lunch at the Poinsett. Tessa is now old enough to go to the children's corner, another milestone I wasn't ready for. She made crowns for all of us while we feasted on prime rib. Wonderful day!My angel, the best job in the world is being her Momma.

Playdate & Pony Rides

On Saturday morning, one of Tessa's favorite friends came over to play. We had the best time playing princess wedding. Tessa is going to be a flower girl this summer and so we have been practicing for the big day. The girls thought it was awesome to take turns tossing flower petals and walking down the "aisle." I hummed the wedding march and snapped pictures while pretending to be the photographer (haha). The blushing bride and Perdita the Puppy, one of our wedding "guests." The girls rode Tessa's pink pony to the "reception." Then we cranked up Tessa's cd player and danced and danced. These girly girls are so fun! Later that same day we went to ride real ponies. I love horses and so does Tessa. Perhaps riding lessons are in our future. Tessa popped right up on her horse's back without any hesitation. I'm so proud of her riding like a big girl. Tessa's rode a horse named Cocoa. At one point during the ride, Cocoa had to stop and take care of some business. After that, we had way too many jokes about Cocoa Puffs. But here Tessa's giving a little love pat, such a sweetheart. I think it's safe to say these kiddos had fun. And as a special Mother's Day bonus, we got to see a newborn foal. Only one week old, this baby is all legs.

Nurse's Day

Happy Nurse's Day to me! Instead of working, I got to spend the day with my favorite little girl. And she loves her new Nurse Minnie, Doctor Mickey and Radiology Goofy toys.

Strawberry Fields

One of the pleasures of warm weather is picking and eating strawberries right off the vine. It is by far Tessa's favorite fruit and a morning spent in the strawberry fields with friends is her version of nirvana. Summer sweetness.

Nanny & Pa

Nanny & Pa came to visit last week-end. We celebrated a late Easter when they arrived. Tessa had another basket to open, presents are always fun. She got a sweet bunny necklace, the movie Bambi and more. Thank you Nanny & Pa. We took it easy and mostly played around the house. The weather was beautiful and as an early Mother's Day gift for Paula, we did a crawfish boil. While I may be a little squeamish about live food, you can see that Tessa isn't. She reached right into the cooler and picked up the little mudbugs. She helped Daddy & Pa season the boil and shucked corn too. Maybe each ear of corn had a few bites taken out of the middle, but none of us cared. It was a relaxing and enjoyable visit that went way too quick. We are so glad Nanny & Pa came to see us.

Easter

Happy Easter! Our morning started with early church service. We rejoiced that our Lord & Savior arose from the dead after paying the price for our sins on the cross. He lives! Then it was over to G&Gs for lunch. My mom always sets such a beautiful table. The menu consisted of lamb, risotto, carrots and more. We have lamb on Easter to remind us that Jesus is the Lamb of God. While lunch was cooking, we headed outside for an egg hunt. With no competition for the eggs, Tessa took her time finding them hidden around the yard. When she discovered they were filled with good chocolate candy (not the cheapo gum and sugar paste) she had to open and sample each egg. It was a fabulous warm day so we didn't mind sitting outside and watching her hunt to her heart's content. Obligatory bunny ear pictures. I just think they are so cute. Sadly, I was called into work before we could sit down to eat or open Tessa's Easter basket. I'm more than a little grumpy about this since I just worked on Christmas too. But when Tessa did finally open her basket it was wonderful. She is such a sweetheart, genuinely excited and grateful for presents. Happy Easter!

Egg Hunts

With Easter being late this year and our spring weather being gorgeous we had time for lots of egg hunts. Our first was a community egg hunt where Tessa picked up a whopping total of two eggs. But she had fun. And there was a magic show, a pizza lunch and an appearance by Elmo. Then there was the Sunday School egg hunt hosted by our wonderful teachers. We gathered way more eggs this time and had a yummy picnic lunch too. Next up was the playgroup egg hunt. I feel so lucky to have all these great kids and their mommas in my life. Love our playgroup! Of course, I knew getting them to sit still and actually look at the camera was never going to happen. But it was worth a try and the craziness of this picture makes me smile.
